Photo-Finish Friday --A Bit of the Athabasca

Sandhills10

This is a deep summer view of the Athabasca River from a lookout in the Sandhills east of Fort Assiniboine. We went there many times when I was growing up.
Back then it was fun to take a run and jump off the edge of the hill into the sand.
The trees have all but take over now all but obscuring the view of the hill, but it you cock you head just right you can still see the river and the riverbottom farmland.

What a fun place to visit and play you had as a child!

Jumping onto sand. An experience I have had only at the playground as a child. Not the same as in the wild.

Trees do record the passage of time, don't they?

Yes, Messymimi. And I loved to jump off things.

Mary Anne, it was a wonderful time. Yes, trees are the best keepers of time.

I just love the word "Athabasca."

To come across Fort Assiniboine in a few days must be synchronicity. There was a program on CBC a couple of days ago about the effects of the Alberta Tar Sands project on Fort Assiniboine.

Lovely photo of a pristine area.

Love this spot! It's amazing how much the trees have grown up.

(And, referring to Barbara Martin's comment, must go google to find out why the tar sands would have an impact on the Fort.)

It does have an intriguing sound, Chris.

Thanks, Barbara. Must try to find said program.

Bag Lady, me, too. Plenty of great memories there.
